Profile Summary:
Our candidate is a very presentable and communicative 43 year old South African male, residing in Johannesburg. He has been in the IT industry for over 20 years, in an ever changing field, and is up to date with best practices and technology advances. Armed with a host of personal skills which are sometimes devoid from IT resources, he brings a wealth of practical experience and an IT degree which was obtained fully by correspondence while working in SA as well as stint in the UK.
He thrives on finding creative solutions to complex system issues or new designs by leveraging current resources to find the optimum solutions. Great at managing a young IT team, he often gets more than expected from colleagues, team members and systems, successfully bridging the gap that exists between a development team and customer liaison and delivery.
In his spare time he is passionate about his daughter, travelling and seeing new destinations, cooking and keeping fit by cycling and gym.
Summary of experience
His professional career started off by self-teaching the ins and outs of visual basic programming when a developer dropped off some very buggy software where he worked. Only years later did he attend some structured programming courses, which assisted in teaching him the more structured formal way to code. During his time at his previous employer not only did he manage all IT aspects of the business but also worked his way up to manage the total company. After 10 years there, it was time to spread his wings, and decided to move to London. There he focussed on more financial related positions, and had a great contract for a large entertainment company on their SAP implementation where he was involved in the master data cleansing, loading, checking and training new users.
After returning to SA, he took a contract with his previous employer where he revolutionised their business from a paper based report as the main output to a fully electronic pdf based system. From there he got into ERP consulting, which was an area where he thrived. He taught himself how to use SQL, again long before any official trained. He enjoyed delivering world class solutions to customers, and often came in under budget. Again, quickly rising through the ranks, then took up a full time position at a telecommunication company to head up their IT team. Here he managed to decrease the company’s reliance on outside consultants and resources by building a young motivated self-sufficient team.
